I Am A Wolf
I am a wolf
In a pasture of sheep
Among them I am an outcast
They fear me
The kindness cheap
I do not wish them harm
I love the herd
Yet they don’t trust me
Me, or my word
My gray fur is close
To the white wool they praise
Shades not so far off
Yet so different in their gaze
My teeth are sharp, painful
I see it in them
My smile
And myself condemned
They say they don’t fear me
I see that they try
I can tell they don’t hate me
But that part isn’t the lie
I run with the herd
I protect them
I do not fear them
I do not hate them
Because I understand their fear
