Homecoming (also known as HOCO) is an event at the beginning of every school year that usually involves a parade, a football game, and a dance. Many students consider this the best event of the school year. Here’s why.
On October 7, 2023, homecoming will take place in the Freehold Boro Regional High School. Before having fun at homecoming, you first have to prepare for it. Wristbands for the dance are sold during lunch, usually two weeks beforehand. You can only purchase the wristbands for a limited number of days, which are announced in the morning announcements. Be sure to buy them in advance since you will not be able to buy any at the door. Students are also able to vote for the homecoming royalty. The homecoming royalty is made up of two students that are elected as King and Queen to represent Boro for the homecoming court. To ease into the HOCO spirit, this year’s Spirit week falls on the same week as homecoming. Each day students can show their school spirit by dressing up as the themes planned. By simply participating, you can earn points for your class, which will be used in battle of the classes at the end of the year.
On October 7th, homecoming will commence with the first event being the parade. The parade usually starts at 11:00 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m. and happens on Main Street. During this time, the homecoming court will march down with the marching band, cheerleaders, school sports teams, and clubs. After this, the football game against Brick Memorial will begin with the theme “Pink Out.” The game will take place at the Freehold Regional High School football field. Students should dress according to the theme. Finally, the event everyone waits for: the homecoming dance! For the 2023 dance, the theme is “The Great Gatsby”, also known as the “Roaring 20s”. Students are to dress formally and on theme. The dance will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 10 p.m.. It will take place in the main gym. During these 3 hours, you can enjoy the food cooked and bought by the staff members. You can party the night away with the DJ and your friends. What a perfect night to take pictures and make memories! I recommend you to attend the dance, it honestly is a night to remember!
