Junior year can be a pretty busy year for high schoolers and as marking period 3 approaches students continue to focus on school work making sure they are doing their best. Along with the new marking period comes another one of many graduation requirements for high schoolers in New Jersey. The purpose of this test is to measure individual graduation readiness.
The NJPGA was introduced by Governor Murphy in 2022 which requires the Board of Education to administer the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment for the graduating classes of 2023-2025. The NJPGA testing consists of an English section and a Math section. The English content aligns with the grade 10 New Jersey Learning Standard for ELA and the Math part includes content from Algebra 1 and Geometry. Each section is scored on a scale from 650- 850. The minimum requirement for graduation is a 750 for each section.
Don’t worry because if you don’t get quite the score you wanted on the first try there are additional opportunities to pass the assessment. The first alternate route is to retake the assessment in the following summer or fall to try and get a better score. If this assessment just doesn’t work out then there are also alternative assessments you can take in which you need to need a minimum score. The last option is to create a portfolio and appeal your low score. It is likely that you will pass this exam as many of the skills tested are used in multiple of your classes up to date but if you are still nervous there are websites on which you can take practice tests. For example on this site https://nj.mypearsonsupport.com/practice-tests/ .
This test will be given mid-March so there is a bunch of time for you to get a refresher on some old topics but you will do great. Good Luck!
