On April 8th, we experienced a rare phenomenon known as a solar eclipse, not to be confused with a lunar eclipse. During this event, the moon perfectly aligns with the sun and blocks its rays from reaching the earth in a moment known as totality. This blockage of the sun was almost completely viewed here, in Freehold! People all got their eclipse glasses to view this unique moment. Usually, the sun is extremely dangerous to look at because of the damage it can have on one’s eyes but with these glasses, the light is filtered so that the eclipse can be safely viewed. One aspect that makes this total solar eclipse so special is the fact that the next visible one in the US will be on August 23, 2044, a whole 20 years from today. Taking advantage of this opportunity can help you really picture how cool the world around us can be. It is a very interesting way to learn about space while also having fun with friends and family!
