On Friday, January 10th, our downtown area as well as Main Street was shut down due to the filming of the Bruce Springsteen Biopic movie that is supposed to be coming out later this year.
The set made all of Main Street look as though the year was 1985, taking signs and decorations down, bringing in old cars, and having people dress in clothes from that era.
Filming started around 10 AM, and they finished up around 1:45. They filmed scenes set in the 70s and 80s, making changes to the area to create the feel for that decade. Watching the scenes as they were filmed, I gained insight on what it was like to film a movie. To film one scene, the same cars drove up and down the street more than 50 times just to get the final take. Being able to see something as cool as this right here on Main Street was definitely an unforgettable experience.
Bruce Springsteen and Jeremy Allen White- the actor playing him- could be seen walking on Main Street, with everyone shouting “Bruuuce” as soon as he was in sight. It’s easy to forget that such a massive celebrity grew up right here. Bruce Springsteen grew up on Randolph Street in Freehold, and even went to our school! It’s exciting to see our town featured in such a cool movie- what a great way to put our community on the map!
