Over 2 million people in the United States are struggling with cancer. Cancer is a disease that affects many people who are diagnosed in both physical and mental ways. A cancer diagnosis can be both overwhelming and worrisome for both the person diagnosed and their loved ones. Cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation can be extremely physically exhausting. Patients going through treatments may need extra help with daily tasks like cooking and cleaning. However, what patients need most is support and love. A strong support system can provide hope and motivation; this encouragement from others can help cancer patients maintain a positive mindset and relieve them from the hardships of their diagnosis. My grandmother was diagnosed with three types of cancer throughout her life: breast cancer, uterine cancer, and stomach cancer. I was in 5th grade when she got diagnosed with stomach cancer and passed away. I was extremely worried and saddened by her diagnosis; her diagnosis was difficult for both her and my family. I wanted to help her feel better in any way I could, and I did this by supporting her through it all and making sure she felt loved and supported. Supporting those going through cancer is extremely important. Therefore, I will be hosting an art drive for the Liv Like A Unicorn Foundation, a foundation that supports families dealing with pediatric cancer and supports cancer research. Items you can donate are crayons, markers, How to Draw Books, Small gel pen sets, coloring books, or any other art supplies. These items will go to children with cancer to occupy them during long clinic visits or extended hospital stays and provide them with happiness and hope. I will be running this art drive from March 17th till March 31st, there will be boxes set up by the office. Your donation can bring joy to a child facing a difficult journey. Look out for the donation boxes and please help make a difference!
