Have you ever been fascinated by the age of our school? I mean, sure, everyone knows that Freehold Borough High School is old. But 100 years old?! Think about it. A whole century this school has stood. A generation is considered to be twenty to thirty years before the following generation comes around. Isn’t that crazy? That means, what, three generations have emerged with our school?
Fascinatingly enough, the generations of “boomers” started roughly in 1928, making our school still older than some of our grandparents, or great grandparents. Intriguing, is it not? It is funny that whenever I talk about this school to other people who don’t go here, they always find it surprising how old it really is. When I say old, I am not mocking the school in any way. I am sure there are plenty of schools that must be perhaps a decade, fifty years old…you know, relatively old. But not a century old.
Considering that last year was technically the exact 100th-year anniversary of this school, it is utterly wild to think that 101 years have passed. I wish someone who was alive during the times of the first year of Freehold Borough High School captured a picture of the building. Not just any picture. I mean pictures of the landscaping around it, the interior, and the exterior. I am convinced it will be a remarkable comparison to the present-day version of our school, don’t you think? What if the old picture captured a few students who used to go there, too? Being able to see the changes that coursed through the many generations is exciting. Knowing what aspects of school life remained and changed always strikes the question of how it occurred.
If you notice around, style trends from the 1960s and 1970s have been blooming back in the past year. Mullets and flare pants are critical examples of this idea. I do not know why the recycling of styles makes their way around, but they are utterly fascinating to think about, no?
P.S. Last year’s yearbook contains pictures across the decades from Boro. Check them out and see how our school today, especially its students, compares to those photos!
