Mamma Mia, the musical, occurred at Freehold High School on March 7th and 8th, putting on a total of three performances between the two days. Our cast and crew had loads of fun presenting all of their hard work from these past few months, but it didn’t happen without any drama…
Before the big opening show, our culinary students hosted a dinner! Wonderful Greek-style food was served in a Mamma Mia-decorated restaurant. A few of the cast members even got to go down to the dinner to perform a sneak peek of the show! The group sang a snippet of Waterloo after walking around and greeting all the guests.
During Friday’s performance, all was going well until intermission. As our pit was taking a well-deserved break and our cast was quickly changing costumes, a fire alarm began to blare! All the people, including a full house audience, left the building and had to wait outside in the cold for nearly half an hour. They waited until the fire department arrived and declared the building safe to re-enter. Luckily, after everyone had returned to their seats, the show went on.
Saturday’s shows went smoothly, with an exciting event on Saturday night! Our pit gained a new paid guitarist to play for the final show and blew everyone away. In between the two shows, the cast had an amazing lunch put together by parent volunteers. The final show was followed by lots of tears, hugs, and gifts. All seniors involved in the show got gifts, and so did all advisors of the show! We announced who won our raffles before the cast got to take pictures with one another on the set.
After the change from costumes into street clothes, our cast practiced their yearly tradition, the sack of rice! The cast, then, went to the cast party and had a blast!
As of now, Mamma Mia’s set is officially down, thanks to the help of tech members and Mr. Gunther! It took many hours of taking down structures, moving props, and sweeping up screws.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to Mamma Mia! We hope to see you all again in the fall!
Stay tuned to learn what shows are to come in the 2025-2026 school year at Freehold High School!
